Website testimonial letters NY

These are from my Martin Van Buren "Futura" yearbook, 1968.

Alvin Tamarkin was a classmate I spent some time with in late 1968 and early 1969. Sadly, he got into heroin in winter-spring 1969 and died that June. His death was (and still is) very hard for me, all these years later.

Mr Stroll was the Dean of Boys at the high school, Martin van Buren in Queens Village.
The only reason I met him was because I was suspended two or three times for wearing blue jeans ("dungarees" in east coast lingo) and would spend a whole day sitting near the office of the principal. I guess they figured that was better than my being in class and learning.

The next year, 1969, the NYC board of education relaxed attire rules and allowed all; student to wear pants, including jeans. This was also a big thing for females students as through spring 1968 girl students, teens including, had to wear skirts and they were not allowed to wear pants of any sort.

I was in his Social Studies classes, 1962-'65.
